Generating A Managed Entry Agreement with UK Hospitals

Supporting early access to medicines while awaiting NICE appraisal.

Client Challenge

Our client was about to launch a new treatment for the management of anaemia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the UK. They wanted to explore the opportunity of driving early market access to their medicine for specific patients after receiving marketing authorisation and while waiting for the NICE appraisal process to complete.  Visions4Health was commissioned to support the generation of a managed entry agreement between the client and NHS hospitals.

 

Our Solution

To better inform the managed entry agreement, Visions4Health focused on understanding the patient pathways and identification of the relevant patient cohort(s), and the patient characteristics. This was a collaborative project between Visions4Health and our healthcare data analytics partner to deliver:

  • Patient characterisation
  • Desk based research utilising the Visions4Health proprietary D-CODE methodology
  • Develop an anonymised England-focused hospital data set
  • Build a model and rules to identify patient cohorts in the data set
  • Patient cohort sizing
  • Development of epidemiology funnels with proportional breakdown per patient volume
  • Market sizing for identified cohorts
  • KPI framework and pathway segmentation
    Definition of theoretical patient pathways
    Design of KPI monitoring model for patient cohorts

 

Outcomes

  • Defined and characterised the “ideal” patient cohort(s) and quantified the patient cohort(s) at a hospital level
  • Outlined the patient pathway for early access to their product
  • Provided sufficient real-world characterisation to enable a robust business case to take to Hospital Trusts to generate a managed entry agreement
